Several years ago on a walk in my neighborhood near dusk I actually stepped on a baby copperhead. Since I was wearing running shoes I fortunately did did not get bitten. When I got home I commented on this on social media saying that if I'd gotten bitten at least it would have been by a baby. That is when several people informed me that the bite of a baby copperhead is typically more dangerous the the bite of an adult. The adult snake has the ability to mete out the venom in doses while the baby snake drops the whole load of venom. So not sure how you weave this into the analogy - perhaps it's that sometimes things that look like smaller problems are really worse than the ones we find most frightening.
