Saved this until I could savor it. We need to add clover or something because our grass is dead. I continue to love your writing. Thank you for all you share.

I moved to a new area and house last November not knowing what the foliage of spring would bring. Thanks to the elderly couple who lived here before I have 6 very tall pine trees in the back yard, canna lilies by the back porch, lots of hostas and other greenery, a purple clematis climbing my mailbox and an entire front yard filled with clover. I too am embracing and enjoying. Thank you Elizabeth for your insights.

I've always loved clover. Never understood the animus to it.

LOVE THIS! I too am embracing native plants and birds! I've also started growing herbs which may lead to raised beds where I can grow more food next year.

I've been disappointed that the birdseed I've put out has been hammered by deer and bunnies, but mostly javalina, so I'll have to do something different. Nature encourages us to be creative! It is a joy to get to watch it all in your own yard. Love you Biz!

Love you too Kel! And what a bummer about javelina eating birdseed.

It pisses me off!!! Not only do they eat the seed, they tear up the yard!

It was so nice at 1st, when only the birds had discovered it. Winston was here and said what a nice little sanctuary we had. It was wonderful. So now the birdbath and herb pots are up on the wall columns. And I won't put out any more seed till I have something up high to put it on.

So happy you're 2 years out and feeling like you can LIVE! 🤗❤

Nice to see you in my In box again. We have some grass but a lot of California native plants and we get hummingbirds, lizards, bees, and also a variety of birds (I’m bad about tracking down the names) at our small fountain. Love seeing them take their baths.

Thanks for the tip about audiobook version of Madman in the Woods. My brother in law lives near where the Unabomber lived and told us he thinks he saw him at the laundromat in town once.

P. S. Have you ever checked out TheStoryGraph.com? It’s a reading tracking site and I’m kind of addicted to it in a good way. You’d be a natural there as you like to post these mini-reviews. If you check it out connect with me there. I’m under louisejulig.

Touched a nerve. Thank you once again. I may need a little pot of clover. I just purchased The Mount of Olive’s. I haven’t started it yet. March-May has not been kind to me. Maybe June…..

I always look forward to reading you 🥰

Another great post! We have not planted clover (yet) but our yard is quite natural and despite being almost 3 acres, it is heavily wooded in front and back. I had not really given much thought to how this helps explain the abundance of birds we have.

I am also glad you mentioned Sophronia as she was one of the first people I thought of when I heard about the shooting in Uvalde and this was probably double heartbreaking for her having been so close to Sandy Hook. I rarely watched TV news and have gone out of my way to completely avoid it recently as I am so sick and tired of hearing bloviating politicians. I have also spent less time on social media. I did respond to a couple of the dozens of gun control comments I've seen by saying that guns are only part of the problem. Access to a gun does not explain why an 18 year old man-child would choose to do something like this. By all means lets make it more difficult for such people to get their hands on them but how about we try to figure out why so many of our young people seem damaged?

Like you, I enjoy it when authors narrate their audiobooks especially if it's a memoir. I think that is one of the reasons I loved Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey so much. I know you ready a book about Dolly but not sure if you also did Dolly Partner, Songteller which she mostly narrated. It was excellent!

I did get a physical copy of that Dolly book and checked out the audiobook from Libby (but didn't get a chance to listen to the whole thing)--LOVE her and her voice!
