Interestingly, one of my co-workers suffers from SAD, but in a reverse way: she gets super depressed in the hot bright summer months, but come October and the winter months she's sailing on a great mood. Apparently this too is a real thing!
I also love October. My Firstborn was born in October and I also personally love the cooler weather and tolerate heat and humidity less well than I used to.
I don't agree with you necessarily about inhibition mourning being a protestant thing - I think we've talked about the memories of my youth where I remember gazing into caskets in my mother's arms and came to view deaths as a great opportunity to see friends and family and eat some great food!
