I find my reading and TV habits have changed, as well, but I attribute most of it to the ever-evolving process of learning to live my life without my mate. Especially TV shows--humor is not nearly so enjoyable without a knowing glance and a shared chuckle. Drama is still good but I find I am weary of crime shows. My attention span is less. Reading is still a delight because of book clubs but many nights I lack energy to read. Interesting to realize others struggle and it may be less grief-related and more generalized angst than I thought.

My reading habit has been hammered over the last 18 months. I've dropped to barely a book a month, and I'm still struggling to get rolling. This from the kids who used to get shooed outside because I was always with my nose in a book. When the pandemic shut the world down, I fell into binge watching TV. That's not something I've ever done before but it let me slide out of one works into another. One where problems were resolved in an hour or so. A low effort, safe space.

The good news was that I enjoyed all 17(!) books I read this year. The last one was "The Space Between World's" by Michaiah Johnson.

I just finished Erdrich's The Sentence and loved it. Another book I loved was the very strange Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Washburn and I found How the Word is Passed by Smith "necessary reading" for coming to terms with our history. As for TV, I binge on the very wonderful Netflix series Heartland which takes place on a ranch in Canada and has characters that you think about when you're not watching!

Reading The Blue Zones Challenge. We’ll see.

TV……haven’t found anything intriguing. I watch mostly fluff except for travel & cooking shows. Anxiously waiting for season 2 of Searching for Italy. Hopefully finding some of the gems when the world is safe to travel again.

I haven’t been able to watch drama on TV for some time. Some faves: Maine Cabin Masters (seven seasons of a family in Maine that fix up old cabins on shoestring budgets - they sound like my family and the scenery is beautiful); travel shows (Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, Rick Steves, Rudy Maxa); Ted Lasso. I find that I read in spurts. I won’t make my Goodreads goal this year (70), but will hit 52+ books and I did crochet almost every day so I’m calling it all a win!
