Six years of cancer treatment changed my views on many things especially the preciousness of time, of this moment now. A meditation practice has been key to my mental health, and it helps keep me present. Or at least when I drift out of the present (as we all do) I have become more aware of it. The present moment is so deep and rich with life. May you find your own path to its possibilities.

I am giving thanks for “NED”. I was once told by a spiritual director that when we live in the past time passes too slowly. When we live in the future time passes too quickly. When we live in the present time passes as God intends. Great article!

Love your observations, as always. We have such an ever-changing collection of backyard birds that just sitting on the patio or porch is endlessly entertaining - and somehow comforting. When they don't come I'm sad. And I've stopped trying to capture them, even on my phone - just enjoying them now, their beauty and feistiness and song. Advent is W H Auden time for me, including "we who are about to die demand a miracle!" So cheered to hear the NED, kiddo - enjoy it. You are a light in the autumn dark.

I love this. And usually I'm very proud of myself for waiting to put the Christmas tree up til after Thanksgiving, but I may have even been too quick this year. I'm so glad about the binoculars, and needed this reminder to live in the NOW.

November 27th, when you wrote this, I was driving to Atlanta to see my newborn (Oct 13th) Grandson! It was joyous and full of new promises for the future. Your NED is also a form of a new promise, for you and for the many, many people who love and pray for you. Blessings this Advent season to you and Gary!
